Tcl/Tk 8.5 handles some characters and input methods quite strangely.
SCIM doesn't work at all.
Any chance you're seeing the effects of this bug:
2006-01-20 Joe English <jenglish@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
* generic/tkEvent.c, unix/tkUnixEvent.c: XIM fixes [See 905830, patch
tk84-xim-fixes.patch], and revert 2005-12-05 patch disabling XIM when
SCIM in use, and make sure all X events get passed to XFilterEvent,
including those without a corresponding Tk window.
As the date indicates, the problem was fixed in January, so the
new Tk 8.5a4 release has that problem corrected. Check that your Tk
is new enough to have the bug fix.
