That's the problem. If they would be elsewhere and not in debian
itself, this would be better for the debian release cycle.
It is not easy to find the right balance... But currently the real core is
far away from having this balance. I agree, that not every possible
extension should be part of the core. But only having the minimum included
with which some of us can live, is not enough either.
On the other hand site: Cannonical hired a "community manager" for
Ubuntu not long ago. This could be an option as well... Someone who is
reasonable techie but not so deeply as TCT members and has mainly
marketing/publishing skills in the open source community.
Google has hired Vint Cerf as "Chief Internet Evangelist". _That_ was a cool
move... ;-)
