The irony here is so few people have even heard of Tcl that if it was

Shhh.... Don't give away the secret. :D
Seriously, though, a Tcl 8.5 release really is coming, and in many ways Tcl 8.5 *is* a new language. There are established Tcl 8.4 idioms that no sane person would ever repeat with the Tcl 8.5 feature set available.
What concerns me is that without quite a bit of tutorial/howto/examples/"look at the cool stuff I built with" pages on the web and promoted, Tcl 8.5 might get released to the sounds of a huge yawn. The Tcl maintainers will have more than enough to do just getting the release done; I don't imagine any of us will get much done in the realm of promotional examples.
It's been said before and I fully agree, that TCT can't market its way out of a wet paper bag. So please, folks, start working on these things now. Start making use of the Tcl/Tk 8.5 alphas so that when Tcl/Tk 8.5.0 emerges from the shell, there will be plenty of examples out there on how to use it effectively to do amazing things.
