Make screensaver go temporarily off

What's a good way to temporarily turn off the screensaver from TCL/TK?
The scenario: A TCL/TK program displays a message window on a remote or
local machine/display, depending on $DISPLAY (e.g. ":0.0" or
"somewhere:1.0"). Now, when the window appears, the screensaver - if it is
running - should temporarily go off, just as if someone had pressed a key
or moved the mouse.
