I am wondering if I am the only one seeing this problem.
I have Tcl/Tk application scripts running on a SPARC Solaris server
and displaying back to my windows xp desktop via the hummingbird
exceed 10.x x server.
If I run an application which attempts to display characters outside
the standard ASCII lower 127 characters, the entire machine comes to a
stand still for moments - the length of time seems forever, since the
mouse doesn't move, etc. Then, the tk windows appear, or display the
text, etc. I see this when attempting to display Kanji, Greek,
Chinese, etc.
The Sun side of things is making use of an X font server.
Is this sort of system freeze "the price that must be paid" for
displaying from X onto Windows? Is it just the price that is paid for
using X at all? Or is this something unique to Tk?
Might be Tk on the hunt for a suitable font for your glyph and not
finding a good one fast.
