Which leads me. to the project's most urgent need:
Reviewers for the documentation!
I found the documentation to be so frustrating I gave up reading it. I
don't know if it's a bug or a design decision but it all appeared in a
fairly narrow column in the center of my window. There was no way to
get it to take advantage of the full width of my browser. Some of the
graphics exceeded the width of the text. This, with firefox 2 on
linux.
(update: it is full-width in IE 6, but who uses IE anymore when there
are better alternatives? Besides, on ie I see odd characters
scattered about - maybe a font issue?)
Who the hell uses FF2 anymore? ;) FWIW, it display "ok" on FF3 on
XP, and displays well in Safari on XP (where the SVG generated part
looks like the screenshot). IE7 displays a blank page.
Also, the introduction is confusing. It says "The purpose of Gestalt
Items is to provide a first class infrastructure for applications.
Currently, only the toolbar and its surrounding is provided. Other
parts may follow.", yet the table of contents leads me to believe
there are lots of things besides toolbars -- palettes, listboxes,
editor windows...
My interpretation from a quick glance is this is a flex-like UI
toolkit that leverages tkpath for all the drawing. Should be of
interest to those wanting to draw flash-like interfaces in Tk. It
makes me interested again to find time to work on the plugin. By
moving to Tk 8.6 + Tkpath, you could have a really awesome environment
that could be embedded or run native. So many are reinventing that
wheel now ... <sigh>
